Major outage for iiNet
2006-Jul-16, 9:15 pm
UPDATE 1:15AM | iiNet reports that NSW users should be able to connect now.
UPDATE 10:15PM | Connectivity has been restored to iiNet customers in VIC and QLD.
iiNet customers in NSW, VIC and QLD have lost most Internet connectivity due to a power failure at a PIPE datacentre in Sydney.
The hardware at fault is a "main power distribution board", which means even the backup generators can't be used to restore power. UPS batteries were used, but quickly ran out.
The outage could be affecting a number of ISPs, but iiNet and Westnet are confirmed to be impacted.
Power was lost at around 5:30PM AEST, and PIPE engineers are currently attempting to hook up a generator to restore service.
Luckily for some, Whirlpool appears to be one of the few sites available to affected iiNet customers.
