Anyone know what speed internet YouTube requires for real time playback?
Works fine on my Exetel 1500/256 connection, just wondering about my friends who have 512 or 256 speed.

What is the actual bitrate that YouTube uses neways?
I wonder how long it will be before they offer higher resolution videos?

Thx

In the penalty box

youtube is slow as for me. Like if the clip is longer than 30-60 seconds it buffers and stuff.

I have 256k. Most of the time, I just pause the feed and wait for the video to load before I watch it.

I haven't had a video that I am able to play back in real time, all of them required buffering.

It seems to be around the 50K mark mainly, so someone on 512 with nothing else running should still be ok (generally)

(Edit: Based on me watching my speed graph in SNMPViewer while running a youtube vid)

im on 1500k speed and get about 50k a sec from you tube and can watch the vids in realtime they finished downloading well before the finish playing, id think you could almost watch in realtime on 256k.

ive also used youtube on dialup and its not much fun :P

I watch videos on there with dialup, if the video is 2 seconds long it streams!

ive been saying this for ages how that the bandwidth we sell in au is far from whats required to playback usa content,.. last time i looked at Mtv most of the bit rates are ~800k meaning 1500k or higher needed
